About the Baltic Sea Philharmonic
The history of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic began on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom. Thomas Hummel, artistic director of the Usedom Music Festival, provided the impetus for the founding of a new multinational orchestra. What better way to express the unity of the Baltic Sea nations than through a young ensemble featuring the finest musicians from all the countries bordering the Baltic Sea?

Since its founding in 2008, the Baltic Sea Philharmonic has evolved from a dynamic youth ensemble into an award-winning orchestra. With its innovative concert programs, it breaks with convention and takes the classical concert experience to a new dimension. Under the passionate direction of its artistic director, Kristjan Järvi, the orchestra is touring throughout Europe, performs at the most renowned concert halls, and appears at outstanding international festivals. As part of the Usedom Music Festival, it performs every year at the Peenemünde Power Plant—its historic and internationally famous birthplace—and gifts the island with musical moments that bring nations together and foster peace.
