Sunbathing with and without

Do you prefer to lounge on the beach in a bikini or swim trunks, or in your birthday suit? Whether you’re a clothed swimmer or a nudist, all sunbathers can find their spot on Usedom’s beaches and mingle in a relaxed atmosphere.

Clothing-Free Zone on the Beach

Do you see naturism and nude swimming as the epitome of freedom and a connection to nature? Do you value a streak-free tan, and do you find wet swimwear annoying when swimming? If you prefer to shed all your clothes at the beach, you’ll be among like-minded people at a naturist beach. There are designated nudist beaches in all seaside resorts. They’re usually just a few steps away from the main beach entrance or located between the different beach areas.

The Long Tradition of Naturism

As early as the turn of the century, adherents of the life reform movement favored nude bathing. The term “Freikörperkultur” (nude culture) first appeared in the 1920s, when clubs and magazines extolled the benefits of nude bathing. During the GDR era, naturism enjoyed great popularity. An official attempt to ban nude bathing in 1954 failed due to the outraged protests of the clothing-free sunbathers. Vacationers on the Baltic Sea refused to let this small freedom be taken away from them.
