Dinner on Usedom!

That's sure to whet your appetite: Regional specialties

Traditional Pomeranian cuisine is considered hearty. The dishes served on Usedom once consisted of what the local rural population grew here: potatoes and sugar beets from the fields, complemented by fresh fish from the Baltic Sea and game from the forests. Even today, the island of Usedom offers regional delicacies, such as distinctive island cheese, smooth honey, golden oils, fine spirits, and locally brewed island beer.

All the Herring You Can Eat and a Culinary Beach Walk

During the “Dej Usedomer Fischerwochen” in the spring, many restaurants serve herring prepared fresh from the catch. In the fall, the Usedomer Wildwochen treat you to wild boar goulash, saddle of venison, and other delicacies from the forest. The Grand Schlemm is a culinary beach walk: sample the dishes right on the beach between Ahlbeck and Bansin. A truly special moment of indulgence in the light of the setting sun!

Head to the garden café for a sweet finale

A sweet specialty of the island of Usedom—in the truest sense of the word—are the summer farm and garden cafés in the Achterland region. They’re called “Naschkatze,” “Alte Feuerwehr,” or “Gnitzer Seelchen,” and they all have one thing in common: Amid blooming hollyhocks and old fruit trees, the coffee and cake still taste just like they did at Grandma’s or Great-Grandma’s. The treats are usually served on pretty ceramic dishes in a colorful, vintage-style setting.
