Frequently Asked Questions About the UsedomCard
Visitor's Tax
All persons staying in a resort town that levies a visitor's tax and who are not registered as residents or employees in that resort (overnight and day visitors) are required to pay the resort's tax.
The obligation to pay the visitor's tax is determined by the ability to use public facilities.
Owners or occupants of a second home are also subject to the visitor's tax if the property is used primarily for recreational purposes.
Children under 6 years of age are exempt. They receive a free UsedomCard.
Exemptions are voluntary benefits provided by the municipalities that collect the visitor’s tax, which they finance from their own budgets.
The visitor’s tax is standardized across all seaside resorts. The regulations governing the collection of visitor's taxes issued by the respective municipality apply. In addition, any amount collected by a municipality within the uniform collection area that exceeds the amount calculated based on its own municipality-specific formula is collected in the name of and for the account of another municipality. It must be used exclusively for purposes specified in the Visitor's Tax Act and the municipality’s visitor's tax ordinance within the uniform collection area.
UsedomCard
Upon payment of the visitor’s tax, overnight guests will receive their UsedomCard directly from their accommodation provider. Day visitors can purchase it at the tourist information offices or conveniently at the visitor’s tax vending machines. For more information, please contact the tourist information offices or your accommodation provider directly.
Holders of annual visitor’s cards also receive an UsedomCard. This will be sent to you by your local municipality or the tourist information office after you’ve paid the annual visitor’s tax. Residents of a seaside resort that collects the visitor’s tax can pick up their free annual visitor’s card at the tourist information office in their local municipality.
The UsedomCard is valid only during the validity period printed on or displayed on the card. Furthermore, the UsedomCard is valid only when presented with an official photo ID.
If you need to end your stay on Usedom early, you can notify your landlord of the shortened stay and have it confirmed. Any excess visitor's tax paid will then be refunded. Physical UsedomCards must be returned accordingly. In the case of the UsedomCard to go, the validity period will be digitally shortened.
There is no entitlement to refunds for daily or annual visitor’s cards.
If you plan to depart later and extend your stay, simply speak with your landlord. You can pay the additional visitor’s tax to them and thereby extend the validity of your UsedomCard.

The QR code is used to verify the validity of your UsedomCard. If you are stopped by a ticket inspector, they can scan your QR code to receive digital confirmation of its validity.
At the same time, the QR code serves as authorization for UsedomCard holders from the Kaiserbäder or Ückeritz to use public transportation without a ticket. On Usedomer Bäderbahn buses, the QR code is scanned upon boarding to verify its validity. On DB Regio trains, validity is checked visually.
