The best way to explore Usedom’s natural beauty is through activities that don’t require motorized transportation—such as walking, biking, or canoeing. Guided tours led by rangers and nature guides also provide additional insight into the island’s delicate ecosystems.

Exploring Usedom's Nature

Natural Treasures of Flora and Fauna

The Usedom Island Nature Park is home to 14 nature reserves that provide habitats for numerous rare plant and animal species. Hiking and biking allow visitors to experience the nature park’s diverse landscapes firsthand and discover nature up close. Direct contact with flora and fauna can also foster an understanding of the importance of nature conservation.

Where the Wild Cattle Live

At the bison enclosure near Dargen, visitors can observe bison and numerous other animal species in a near-natural environment. The primary mission here is to breed bison, an endangered species of cattle. In addition to the bison, visitors can observe numerous bird species, insects, small mammals, and reptiles.

Usedom's Biggest Rock

From the federal highway, a tree-lined avenue with trees up to 160 years old leads to the Neu Pudagla Forest Office. Spanning about 160 square meters, the Forest Cabinet is all about the forest as a habitat. The adjacent rock garden, with its impressive boulders, offers insights into the geological past of the West Pomeranian landscape. The oldest rock in the collection is about 2 billion years old, and the heaviest weighs around 11.4 metric tons.

Usedom: Just perfect for hiking!

Usedom is an island perfect for hiking. Away from the main roads, narrow trails lead to the island’s hidden corners. The sound of engines is far away here. On the network of hiking trails, which stretches over 400 km, you’ll encounter the Stone Table, the Kleine Haff, the Golm, and the Glaubensberg; the Krebssee and the Teufelsstein, the Thurbruch, and the Schwarze Herz. What often remains hidden from drivers amazes hikers all the more...
