Happiness Lies in Slowing Down

Nowhere on the island is as quiet and tranquil as the Lieper Winkel. You won’t find any spectacular sights here. Instead, you’ll discover the most unspoiled and the least densely populated spot on Usedom.

Surrounded by the Achterwasser and the Peenestrom

The Lieper Winkel juts out like a peninsula into the Achterwasser and the Peenestrom. For centuries, residents could reach the rest of the island and the mainland only by boat, since there were no roads at all in the Lieper Winkel. See for yourself how the villages of Liepe, Reestow, Grüssow, and Quilitz have retained their original charm to this day. Let the Suckow Oak and St. John’s Church in Liepe tell you stories of past centuries on the peninsula.

With more than 800 years under its belt

St. John's Church in Liepe is the oldest church on the island. The church was first mentioned in 1216; the current structure dates from the 15th century. It’s well worth visiting the church to see the medieval murals. Afterward, take a moment to linger in the churchyard and let the sculptures sink in.
