Endless expanses, almost like being at the ocean

Do you also feel as if you’re at the sea when you let your gaze wander across the water at the Szczecin Lagoon? The border runs right through the middle of this German-Polish lagoon, dividing the second-largest lagoon in the Baltic Sea into the Small Lagoon on the German side and the Large Lagoon on the Polish side. Enjoy the wonderful tranquility along the reed-lined shores, in the picturesque countryside, and in the idyllic fishing villages.

Always along the island's south coast

In the southern part of the island, you’re always close to the Szczecin Lagoon. Life is very peaceful in the fishing village of Kamminke. You’ll love the thatched-roof fishermen’s cottages and the small harbor. In the neighboring town of Zirchow, vacation flights take off and land at Heringsdorf Airport during the summer. Step back in time at the GDR Museum in Dargen, and encounter an endangered species at the bison enclosure in Prätenow.

A picturesque village with a stately centerpiece

In the idyllic village of Stolpe on the Szczecin Lagoon, life is still pretty much as it should be. In the summer, storks nest on the roofs of some of the farmhouses here. In the village center, the imposing castle will immediately catch your eye. You should definitely visit Stolpe Castle, where the von Schwerin family of counts once resided.

On the Szczecin Lagoon Loop , you’ll cycle along a well-developed network of bike and hiking trails from Anklam via Szczecin to the sister island of Wollin and on to Świnoujście. Or perhaps the final leg—which runs from Kamminke to the Zecherin Bridge—will be enough for you?
