The Usedomer Winkel Is So Beautiful

A monumental landmark in the Peene Strait
It's hard to believe: Ninety years ago, the train ride from Berlin to the island of Usedom was significantly faster than it is today. The railway lift bridge over the Peenestrom made it possible. When it went into operation in 1933, it was the most modern railway lift bridge in Europe. Just like an elevator, the tracks could be raised and lowered within a few minutes to let trains pass.
