A Baltic Sea island of superlatives

Records by the (kilo)meter
You can stroll along Europe’s longest beach promenade and enjoy the most hours of sunshine in the country on Germany’s longest sandy beach. Not enough records yet? The beauty and quality of life on this Baltic Sea island are also record-breaking.
From Relaxing to Active: Usedom's Beaches
Fine white sand stretches along 42 kilometers of Usedom’s coastline. It’s the longest sandy beach in Germany. In some places, it’s up to 70 meters wide. Plenty of room for all sun-seekers! According to the German Weather Service, the sun shines on Usedom for 1,900 hours a year. The Usedom Beach Cup, held in Karlshagen, is one of the world’s largest beach volleyball tournaments played on sand.

Take a walk from Germany to Poland
Stroll to your heart’s content: You can do just that along the 12-kilometer-long beach promenade from Bansin to Swinemünde. It’s the longest promenade in Europe. Cafés, restaurants, and shops—as well as playgrounds and mini-golf courses—line the way. You’ll also pass three piers. The one in Heringsdorf, at 508 meters, is the longest of its kind in Germany. Also on the promenade in Heringsdorf: the world’s largest beach chair.

The ultimate beauty contest: Along Usedom’s promenades, seaside villas compete to see which is more magnificent than the next.

Amber is the gold of the Baltic Sea. But even set in silver, this gemstone from Usedom is a valuable eye-catcher.
