Enjoy peace and relaxation on Usedom
When fall arrives, nature on Usedom really comes into its element. Just smell that—the forest floor, the damp earth! The beech leaves glow in rich shades of yellow and orange. Mushrooms sprout from the grass, dew glistens on the rushes, and spiderwebs catch droplets of mist. The hustle and bustle of summer is a thing of the past. The time has come for you, too, to reward yourself for the year’s hard work and slow down a bit.

Fall Break for the Whole Family
In the fall, Usedom offers everything you need to recharge your batteries for the final stretch of the year: peace and quiet and unspoiled nature on one hand. There, you can still hike and bike outdoors to your heart’s content. And a fantastic program of events on the other, for cheerful and unforgettable vacation moments. This combination is ideal for families: no hassle getting there, but maximum fun for the fall break!

Fall Highlights
The dragons are on the loose!
The biggest family festival on Usedom in the fall is the Kite Festival in Karlshagen in late September/early October. Kites of all sizes and colors flutter in the sky above the wide sandy beach. And just as imaginative is the dragon-themed hands-on program, which is all about these fire-breathing lizards. It includes the world’s largest inflatable dragon, an XXL balloon dragon, and the dragon sand sculpture contest.

Usedom Shines in a New Light
At the “Light Magic in the Ückeritz Forest” event in late September, you’ll be captivated by a mysterious forest of lights, created using laser technology and eerie ground fog. In October, the “Fairy Fire” in Zinnowitz showcases sculptures made of fabric, wood, and other materials with magical lighting effects. Illuminated buildings, plants, organza banners, light pylons, sky beamers, meteor lights, and lanterns create a whole new world.
Musical Treasures of the North
Featuring a star-studded lineup and a staple of the fall event calendar, the renowned Usedom Music Festival is a must-see. For three weeks from September through October, you can discover the stars and musical treasures of the Baltic Sea region. These performances take place at unique concert venues across the island: in atmospheric churches, picturesque castles, magnificent buildings in the imperial resorts, or at the Peenemünde Historical-Technical Museum.

A 400-kilometer network of trails is waiting for you to explore. How about an autumn mushroom hike?

Sometimes even the heavens have to laugh through their tears. But even when it rains, there’s plenty to do on Usedom.

Whether small and idyllic or steeped in history, Usedom’s museums and galleries offer extraordinary diversity.

Sunny to stormy: Your fall weather
Thanks to the heat-retaining bodies of water—the Achterwasser, the Peenestrom, the Szczecin Lagoon, and the Baltic Sea—Usedom enjoys a long, warm fall, usually lasting until the end of October. But the closer November comes, the more likely it is that we'll see the first signs of winter, with night frosts and snowfall. You might also experience a storm tide with hurricane-force winds and choppy seas. A force of nature you’ll remember for a long time.
Questions for Fall
Even in September, the water temperature in the Baltic Sea off Usedom is still suitable for swimming. The mild climate, which lasts well into the fall, causes water temperatures off the island to drop only slowly. Depending on how sensitive you are to the cold, you can even extend your swimming season into early October. And even a sunny day at the beach without a refreshing dip is highly relaxing.
In most seaside resorts, a fee of 2 euros per night applies during the off-season from November 1 through March 31; children under 6 are exempt. From April 1 through October 31, the peak-season rate of 2.70 euros applies. Exceptions are the imperial seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, and Bansin (2.40 euros/3.10 euros) and the seaside resort of Ückeritz (3.20 euros/3.90 euros). For more information, see “Visitor’s Tax” or contact the tourist information offices.
