Spring on Usedom

In the spring, Usedom comes alive. From March through May, the days grow longer, nature begins to bloom, and the Baltic Sea island offers ideal conditions for walks, bike rides, and excursions. Whether it’s an Easter vacation, a short getaway, or an active break—spring is one of the most diverse times to visit Usedom.
Enjoy the spring sunshine on Usedom
In the spring, the days on the island of Usedom, in the far northeast of Germany, are sunny. The sun shines for many hours over the white beach and the steel-blue sea. You might even get quite warm during a long walk by the sea. A spring bonus: Until the end of March, your dog is allowed to accompany you on all sections of the beach. So spring is exactly the right time for an active vacation together on Usedom.

Spring in the Achterland—and you'll blossom
There’s still plenty of time until summer vacation. Things are laid-back on Usedom. The streets are quiet, and accommodations are affordable. Bike rides and hikes across the island are now in full swing. The picturesque inland countryside blossoms before your eyes: the color palette ranges from the pale yellow of dandelions to the vibrant red of poppies. The sea of purple blossoms that the liverwort conjures up in the coastal forest of Koserow is also incomparable.

Sculpture: From Log to Sculpture
What was just a moment ago a mighty oak trunk is now a delicate sculpture: Anyone who hasn’t seen it with their own eyes will hardly believe what woodcarvers can accomplish with a chainsaw. Every spring, the International Woodcarving Symposium takes place in Zinnowitz. The Kulturhauspark is then transformed into an open-air studio. You can watch live as these unusual works of art take shape.
Festival: Small Art, Big Impact
Artists from all over the world gather in May for the International Cabaret Festival on Usedom. Usedom’s beach promenades, open-air music pavilions, and concert venues are then transformed into lively festival stages. From Friday through Monday, you can marvel at magic, juggling, mime, and street theater. Over the course of three days, the performing artists compete before a professional jury.

Good news from the weather girl
Spring on Usedom is especially recommended because of the good weather. In April and May, the balance of sunshine, rainfall, and mild temperatures is just right. The cool Baltic Sea isn’t quite ready for swimming yet. But there’s generally little rain, the sun shines often, and the days are already long. This gives you plenty of time for extended excursions, long bike rides, and exciting hikes.
Questions for Spring
Easter is celebrated throughout the island of Usedom with a wealth of events for children. Many seaside resorts host Easter bonfires, Easter festivals, Easter markets, and Easter hikes. Some highlights return every year: At the “Easter Magic” event on Zinnowitz Beach, the ancient legend of the sunken city of Vineta comes to life. The “Easter Islands” in Bansin offer a colorful mix of games, crafts, culinary delights, and music.
In most seaside resorts, the off-season rate of 2 euros per night applies from November 1 through March 31; children under 6 are exempt. From April 1 through October 31, the peak-season rate of 2.70 euros applies. Exceptions are the imperial seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, and Bansin (2.40 euros/3.10 euros) and the seaside resort of Ückeritz (3.20 euros/3.90 euros).
